Cheryl Marion

Production Designer

What I do…
Production Design should meld seamlessly with the narrative, support the characters and help advance the story. The design of a show is driven by the script, the characters, the theme and the mood. At the same time, collaboration with directors, producers, cinematographers and costume designers is vital. I believe Production Design should play an essential role in storytelling, as every set must service the story being told and define the visual identity of a film.
How I got here...
I am an award-winning designer with 23 years of film experience. I have the good fortune of having worked with and learned from the industry's top Production Designers; Patrice Vermette, Jim Bissell, Jan Roelfs, Rick Heinrichs and Rick Carter, to name a few. My education in Interior Architecture and Design along with such a variety of film experiences has given me a depth of knowledge and expertise for staying on budget and managing the demands of a script and schedule. It has also given me the ability to imagine a creative vision for the script and then bring that vision into reality.

Personally speaking...
On a personal note, I am of Indigenous descent (Red River Métis) and proudly advocate for Indigenous rights and culture.
Collaborating on Indigenous projects is a passion of mine.
I love to dance tango, ride horses and pretend I’m a gardener. I draw inspiration from all forms of art, architecture and nature. Working in film has taught me to see beauty in the mundane and in the nuances of aging materials and places. I love a good napkin sketch.
